Memorize the following words to begin improving your understanding of writing and grammar.



Word Definition Example
   
singular just one a car, a man
plural more than one cars, men
phrase a group of words forming an incomplete sentence. at the mall, the red car, sitting at home
sentence a complete idea expressed with a group of words beginning with a capital letter and ending in a period. The teacher closed the door.
paragraph a small piece of a writing passage (made up of more than one sentence), beginning on a new line.  
dialogue a conversation between two people.

Bill: Hi Anne, how was class?

Anne: Good, how about you?

question a group of words used to get information beginning in a capital letter and ending in a question mark.

Are you Korean?

Can you speak Chinese?

answer the reply or response to a question.

Yes, I am.

No, I can not.
