You should be able to recognize the different parts of speech. Knowing the different parts of speech will help in improving your sentence structure, identifying unfamiliar words and improve your overall English level.
Parts of Speech    
     
Nouns:  
Definition:
 A person, place, thing or idea.
Example:
 University, book, or girl
   
Pronoun:  
Definition:
 Words used to replace a noun or noun phrase
Example:
 He, she, it, they, we, our
   
Adjectives:  
Definition:
 Modifies a noun.
Example:
 Fast, slow, pretty, ugly, or tall
Verbs:  
Definition:
 Action words that talk about something being done.
Example:
 To ski, swim, jog, or climb
Adverbs:  
Definition:
 Modifies the verb, telling how it is done.
Example:
 Quickly, poorly, or well
Conjunctions:  
Definition:
 Used to join words, clauses, sentences or phrases.
Example:
 and, or
Prepositions:  
Definition:
 Words of time or place.
Example:
 In, through, or by
Interjections:  
Definition:
 Used to show surprise, protest or commands.
Example:
 Oh!, Ah! or wow!
